Faro was liberated from the dominant Moors in 1249 and a bronze statue in the main square, honours King Afonso III who led the conquering Christian forces. The names, structures and colours of the area are all characteristic of North African cultural tradition.

The Faro International airport (FAO) is less than three flight hours away from most major European Airports.
